Bethesda Care Services (BCS)

Our collaboration with Bethesda mainly involved the YouthSpace programme, where Bethesda social workers reach out and connect with youths in the community through street outreach and working with neighbouring schools.

Jeslyn Koh, Senior Social Worker at Bethesda Care Services

“We have been so encouraged by the energy and commitment that the team has shown, from the volunteer training to facilitating the outing and weekly programmes. It is very evident to us that our youths have grown from this initiative.”

Uprock Dance Programme

In collaboration with Bethesda Care Services, we piloted a 6-week programme that aimed to inculcate positive values in youths by integrating dance instruction with social work principles. Our objectives were to:

  • Provide a platform for youths to build self-confidence
  • Facilitate the exploration of self-expression
  • Build discipline and resilience through skills-based training
  • Elevate youths’ physical and mental well-being
At the end of the programme, the youth put up a short performance to celebrate their newly gained skills. In partnership with Recognize! Studios, we were also able to extend sponsored dance scholarships to youth who were empowered to continue this journey of self-expression.

Graffiti Workshop & Mural Hunt

We designed and executed a graffiti introduction for some of the youths under the care of BCS, beginning with hands-on drawing and outlining of names on mahjong paper.

The youths then paired up to explore Haji Lane together with two supervising volunteers, with the task of hunting for 9 pre-identified graffiti pieces displayed on the walls within the area.

Bethesda Cares Family Camp

During a 2-day family camp organised by BCS, we planned and conducted a 3-hour one-time b-boy workshop.

11 youths were taken through a series of activities that encouraged them to express themselves, go beyond their comfort zone and work as a team. It ended off with a combined showcase (with both youths and volunteers) in front of their parents and siblings.
